Focus on Seasonal and Locally-Sourced Produce

This month, make an effort to nourish your body with the many locally-produced fruits and vegetables that are coming into season.  Aim for 6-8 servings of colorful, seasonal and preferably organic fruits and veggies each day. With their high fiber, antioxidant and riboflavin content, they will do wonders for your body.  As often as possible, use these as replacements for colorless, simple carbohydrates like white bread and pasta, candy, and pastries. 

What exactly are the fruits and vegetables that are coming into season and grown in Texas? Get out your grocery lists!
In May, stock up on: 
avocado ~ cucumber ~ celery ~ carrots
~cabbage ~ peppers ~blueberries ~blackberries
~honeydew 
tomatoes ~ strawberries ~ plums
~watermelon 
cantaloupe ~ 
 

Visiting your local farmers market is a fantastic way to find these locally-sourced, seasonal and often organic produce while simultaneously getting outdoors and interacting with your community. With a number occurring around the city every week, there is bound to be one near you that you will love. Here, a couple to check out if you haven’t already:
