Roots:
I am originally from Wichita Falls, TX. I have lived in Austin since 1972, when I came to Austin to attend UT.
Family Life:
My husband Peter and I just celebrated our 40th anniversary. We have 3 adult children. Martha and her partner, Jo, and their children, River and Townes, live in Austin. Our daughter Lizzie and her husband, Stephen, and their children, Shep and Lyle, live in Houston. Our son Peter and his wife, Jacky, and their children, Annie, Claire, Robbie and Baker, live in Dallas. We are so fortunate to live in the same state as our children and grandchildren.
Current/Previous Occupation:
I am currently on the Board of Trinity Center, a homeless mission housed at St. David’s Episcopal Church. I’m also Vice Chair of the Endowment of St. David’s Episcopal Church. In my previous life, I was involved in St. Andrew’s School, Helping Hand Home for Children, Children’s Hospital and the Junior League of Austin in different capacities.
Biggest lesson learned through my iGnite experience:
It has to be that surrounding yourself with positive people who love the outdoors and enjoying moving is the best possible way to embrace aging!
Best piece of advice and from who:
From a Vietnam War veteran about 30 years ago, I heard the expression “This ain’t no dress rehearsal.” He was of course referring to life. When I feel myself getting bogged down in stuff that just doesn’t matter, I remind myself of this wise saying.
I am looking forward to:
Celebrating my husband’s 65th birthday at Lost Pines with all of our children and grandchildren! It is not an easy thing to get everyone all together at once! The biggest joy will be on Peter’s face as he is surrounded by his smart, capable, diverse, loving and fun children. It will be a Kodak moment for sure.
If I were a pair of shoes, I would be:
I should hate to admit this, but I would be a nice comfortable (a sort of snappy) pair of sneakers. Just bought a pair and my kids even think they are cute. Happy feet lead to happy people!
